"Restless souls" - this is one of the exhibitions of the Open Eyes Art Festival. It will show the works of fourteen artists, teachers of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, who have worked at the faculties of: Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Intermedia.
The exhibition is a collection of individual presentations in which the artists self-reflect on their creative path so far, present their own strategies and private perspectives. At the centre of each of them are current works that dialogue formally or ideologically with those from the beginning of their activity at the Academy of Fine Arts. Questions arise: Are the themes that were relevant at the beginning of the creative path reflected even slightly in the current practice? How did the evolution of forms and themes proceed?
Tadeusz Kantor, one of the most important Polish artists after World War II and a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts, said: "Everything I created [...] always had the quality of a confession. Confessions became more and more personal. Confessions to save from oblivion [...]. And then this constant desire or dream and cry for creativity to be free, subject only to me, to my weaknesses, to my follies, to my illnesses, to my failures, to my loneliness...".
This confession spoken of by Kantor, communicated through the art he creates, is also transferred to the field of description and interpretation of the individual works in the 'Restless Souls' exhibition. There will be succinct confessions by the artists that bring the viewer closer to a glimpse of their work and its progress to date.
